St John of God Geraldton Hospital

I too was not impressed with the care this hospital gave. My mother was dying (in 2016) and was in palliative care where she wanted to pass instead of the nursing home as she was a retired nurse. The nursing team said she had to leave after 3 days because they needed the bed. I interpreted that as she was taking too long to die. One of the nurses told me “ we don’t get want we want”. She returned to the nursing home and died a week later.

I' had a small bcc basal cell carcinoma removed at public hospital Geraldton by surgeon Menezes im just letting people know that I wasn't sure if the nurse put canula in my vein properly or I was not sedated anaethetised properly because I was concious during entire procedure I have to be honest I'm not happy with the long cutt incision too big for small bcc on my forehead it's like being kicked in the head with steel cap boots after sore and 11 stiches be a big scarr on my face I didn't expect that big incision. T I felt the staff were good but I wasn't explained by surgeon what my proceedure was and how it would happen, it should of been explained to me so I could have the option to not have it done and find alternative treatments.

I did not like it when my husband was dying he actually said to the nurse that he didn't want to die to which she replied 'no one wants to die' then said that if he wanted to fight it he would have to go the other hospital to emergency. (He had asked not to resuscitate). His blood sugar was 1.2 as he wasn't eating or drinking much. It then went up to 1.4 after they gave him some sort of sugar in a tube. Then they put him on a glucose drip but DIDN'T check to see how his sugar was after the drip instead they put him on another drip/bag in his stomach. He then went into coma not long after. I don't know what the drip was for and dont know if that it procedure but I felt like my husband was abandoned by the nurses/doctors on his last day on this earth.

Staff are wonderful, but they need to do something about the parking, it's a bloody nightmare

My partner had her appendix out at this hospital and I have to say I am extremely happy with their service and care and communication with all parties involved was exemplary. Not what I expected from a public hospital but this place puts a lot of other private hospitals I have been in to shame. Well done Geraldton! My thanks
